Type Locality and Naming

Beibu Gulf region. The Formation was named by China National Petroleum Corporation Nanhai Branch in 1978. The named section is located at No.1 Drill in Xuqian, Zhushan, Xuwen, Guangdong.

Synonym: Fuluo Fm (see entry).


Lithology and Thickness

The Dengloujiao Formation refers to a set of relatively coarse clastic rocks located between the Jiaowei Formation and the Wanglougang Formation. It consists of gray or gray-green sandstone, gravelly coarse sandstone, silt-like sandstone and mudstone. The lithology can be divided into three sections: Lower section is gray-yellow sandy conglomerate, conglomerate with light gray mudstone and lignite; Middle section is gray mudstone, silty mudstone with gray-green clayey, coarse sandstone and gravel-bearing sandstone; Upper section is gray, gray-yellow medium, coarse sandstone and glutenite are mainly mixed with light gray mudstone. It has a thickness of 288 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

The bottom is in conformity or pseudo-conformity contact with the underlying Jiaowei Formation by a marked layer of conglomerate sandstone.

Upper contact

It is in conformity contact with the overlying Wanglougang Formation.

Regional extent

Distributed in Leizhou Peninsula, Beibu Gulf, northern and western Hainan Island.

Fossils

This Formation is rich in fossils such as foraminifera, ostracods, gastropods, bivalves, bryozoans, calcareous nannofossils, and pollen. Foraminifera includes Amononia altispira, Gyroidina orbicularis and Globigerinanephenthes, Globorotalia (T.) acostaensis, Globoqudrina altispira, Sphaeroidinellopsis sminula, etc., belonging to the N16-N17 zone; calcareous nannofossils include Discoaster quinqueramus, D. berggeren—ii, etc. belonging to the NN10 zone; ostracods are the combination of Spinileberis infexicostata-Cytheropteron striatituberosa; the pollen is the combination of Cupuliferoipollenites oviformis-Dicolpopollis kocklii-Liquidambarpollenites stigmosus.
